How we Operate by A.R. Moler

Summary:

Chris Kearney is a surgeon working the Emergency Room at a large hospital near the bad part of the city. After operating on and losing a teenaged patient, he runs into Drew Hayden, an undercover vice cop. Connecting over a kid who tried to get out of gang lifestyle and still died, the two men check each other out. When they run into each other at the grocery store, they are more than happy to reconnect and pleased to find that neither of them had read the signals wrong.

It’s hard for a cop and a doctor, especially an undercover cop and an emergency room doctor, to find time to meet, date and do all the other things a burgeoning relationship requires, but somehow Chris and Drew manage. Their lives are full and sometimes difficult. Will they get through the traumas and troubles of the first year and a half of their relationship? And, when they get there, what will the other side look like?

Dr. Chris Kearney and detective Drew Hayden meet for the first time in a waiting room. Detective Drew is waiting for an update about the young  kid who died on Chris's operating table. The name of the deceased is Emanuel Ramirez. After giving an update to Drew, over hospital coffee,  their paths part, with Drew promising Chris to give him a call if they find Emanuel's killer. It is three days later when Chris gets a call  from detective Drew. He informs Chris about arresting the killer of young Emanuel Ramirez.

From the start of How We Operate, we can see that the two main characters enjoy talking to each other and wouldn't mind spending some private time together. Chris is attracted to Drew from the start.  He would like having some excuse to meet Drew for a beer or  something, but he is afraid it won’t work.

It  probably wouldn't have worked anyway; a cop and a surgeon trying to find even a couple of hours of mutual free time would likely be a disaster.
Chris was a morbid character, but that was due to his work.

Chris Kearney went home alone, lived alone, and slept alone.

How morbid is that! But everything changes for the better, because he has met Drew, who is a force of nature in my opinion. I really like how Drew simply states what he wants from Chris, with a direct comment of  letting Chris know that he is attracted to him and wouldn't mind having hot, steamy sex.

From this point, Chris and Drew start to see each other as often as they can, despite their hard work schedules . Chris and Drew fit together perfectly, intellectually, and privately.  They soon fall in love with each other. Which is emotional, realistic  and really well written.

"Every time I think about how I could have lost you, I'm the one who feels gutted. I love you, Drew."
That sentence is pure romance and full of love.

A cop and an ER doctor make a really great couple in this piece of work. The romance builds to falling into deep wáter with both of them trying to learn how to swim in their new developing relationship. As a reader,  I loved both of them. The months in which they started to hang out together, then begin living together, and at the end, getting married was developed winningly with the perfect pace. Their romance is perfect and  plotted in a solid realistic way. Their time, making love in whatever  kind of state, is HOT and basically romantic.

"So now you're stuck with me for the long haul." "Mmm, I'm hoping for at least fifty years."

This  is the best ending ever! I'm giving 4.5 stars for this story. I simply  loved the storyline, because it was full of action, real emotions, and  amazing characters!
