Washed Up by Viola Grace

Summary:
Crashing into a forbidden ocean was not on her flight plan, but Safi never expected to survive. Come to consciousness and being told that her life now depended on finding a mate was the kind of luck she was starting to expect.

Safi has been a pilot for years, never expecting to end her days on an interdicted planet, but blowing out her engines and lawn-darting into the ocean set her fate. She wakes and is told that her body will not last long enough to allow her to survive to a rescue, but there is an option. She can find a husband and join the underwater colony with a full transformation to water breathing, or she can die in under a week. For a woman who's prime personality trait is survival, it isn't too much of a choice

The Little Mermaid is one of first Disney movies I saw in a cinemas when it was specially screened for some reason. It holds a special place in my heart, so I jumped at the chance to read this author's take on the classic fairytale. In this version was everything I hoped for in adult version of the story. Yes, the author has changed things so it won’t be plagiarized but she has kept true to the story in her own way.

I have to give 3.5 stars. It would of been nice to see a villain of some sorts and I wish the author incorporated one into the story. Otherwise it was a great read and paid homage to the original. I would recommended that anyone who grew up with these fairytales to read this book and the other fairytales that have been reworked by this author.
